Soapstone Sinks

Soapstone is a durable and versatile building material. Soft but dense, it is one of the largest naturally occurring minerals on earth. A soapstone sink is a wonderful investment for any home or office due to the material’s unparalleled resilience.
Soapstone naturally comes in two forms. It is a metamorphic rock, which means soapstone changes structurally throughout the course of its lifetime. The first form of soapstone, called talc, is extremely soft and used in many products like toothpaste, chewing gum and cosmetics. Although talc and the second form of soapstone are both called soapstone, talc would be impossible to work with as a building material, especially for something as necessarily durable as a soapstone sink. The second form of soapstone, called steatite, is made up of several minerals. This form of soapstone is much harder than Talc, which is why it is perfect when used to manufacture things like countertops and soapstone sinks.
Soapstone sinks are extremely attractive accents to any home or office. The soapstone, which comes in shades of gray, darkens over time in an attractive manner. A soapstone sink also is extremely useful because, although it contains many soft minerals like talc, a soapstone sink will not stain, nor will it develop scratches that are impossible to remove. A soapstone sink, combined with soapstone counters or other accessories made of soapstone, can define the room with elegance, particularly once they begin to darken with age.
The metamorphic quality of the stone will darken a soapstone sink over time. The structure of soapstone changes while it ages, and the result is a darkening in the grays of the stone. To enhance the aging effect as well as bring out the rich hues of the soapstone, mineral oil can be used to make any soapstone sink look polished and classically modern.
Soapstone is a non-porous and very dense stone, which means it is nearly impenetrable, so there is no chance of your soapstone sink getting any kind of damage from stains or scratches. Even though soapstone is a soft stone, its density makes soapstone good for building things like a soapstone sink. It is a comfort to know a soapstone sink is not one that will need replacing anytime soon and will continue to look good with age.
